Ear micro-suction

Do I need to do anything to my ears before you see me?

No. I will examine your ears and then, if needed, advise you on any steps to be taken before treating you. In some circumstances, I may ask you to self-administer an over the counter preparation into your ears for a short time before seeing you again. This is normally to ensure that old, hardened wax has the chance to soften to enable its removal. I will fully advise you at the time and only charge the consultation fee at that point. When you come back for treatment, only the balance is payable.

Will I need more than one treatment & will it cost more?

You may need more than one treatment to remove the wax; I will advise you at the time of your initial consultation if this is the case. The price I charge covers that consultation and removal of the wax related to that consultation only.  I will explain and guide you through a consent form, which will outline the treatment and your agreement to it.

So for example, you have an initial consultation and I advise you that both of your ears have excess wax that needs removal however, it is hard and needs softening. I will advise you accordingly and make a follow up appointment. At the second appointment we are able to clear one ear but the other needs further softening over a few days, so I make a second follow up appointment and advise you to continue to soften the wax. At the next follow up appointment the wax is removed.

This would all be included in the price.

If you have a recurring ear wax issue i.e. it returns after being removed, these subsequent treatments would be chargeable at the normal rate.

Is it guaranteed to work?

Nothing in medicine is guaranteed!! I will treat you if it is, in my professional opinion, appropriate and indicated. It is possible that removal of all of the wax is not possible or indicated. If this is the case, I will advise you accordingly. Any micro-suction treamtent administered is charged at the full price.

Does it come back?

Recurring ear wax build up is common, so you may choose to have future visits. Each one is a separate treatment and I will always undertake a full examination and diagnosis and ask you to complete a consent form each time. For example, people who wear in ear hearing aids do tend to have recurring wax build up so often need regular micro-suction treatment.
